The #AMBIT25 delegation from the Washington Ireland Program (WIP) visited The Pathway Initiative’s office in March 2025 for a sit-down with the Founder and CEO, Dr. Lawrence Mensah.
Dr. Mensah shared his motivation for establishing TPI and his vision for creating a mentorship loop in which program graduates support the next generation by expanding access to careers in medicine for talented African American, Hispanic, and Latino students from underprivileged backgrounds, offering guidance from high school through medical residency.

This visit aligned with AMBIT 2025’s four core themes: Multiple Identities in a Shared Space, Social Regeneration, Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Innovation. The delegation expressed its excitement for the role The Pathway Initiative is playing to create opportunities for young people aspiring for careers in health sciences to realize their goals.
AMBIT (American Management and Business Internship Training) is an annual outreach and capacity-building programme that has been funded by the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) for over 20 years and is facilitated by the US Consulate in Belfast and managed by the Washington Ireland Program (WIP).
