Our Mission

What Makes Us Unique?

The Pathway Initiative is designed to be a longitudinal, cross-generational, and end-to-end wrap-around ecosystem for training next-generation physicians and scientists. The program is not only dedicated to supporting our students every step of the way, from middle school, high school all the way through college and medical residency or graduate program, but is also designed as a positive feedback loop. Students can apply and be selected at any of these main entry points: (1) Middle/High School, (2) College/Pre-Med, (3) Medical School/Graduate program, and (4) Residency/Postdoc.

When students complete our programs through college or residency, they provide feedback and support for those behind them.

The program builds a community of dedicated and passionate individuals who support each other while getting support from seasoned professionals at the same time.

Our Story

The founder, Dr. Lawrence B. Mensah, was inspired to start The Pathway Initiative following his own educational journey. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of the West of England, UK; a Master’s degree in Medical Genetics and Immunogenetics from Brunel University, UK; and a Triple Doctorate in Anatomy, Physiology, and Genetics from the University of Oxford, UK. He trained as a scientist and researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, Harvard Medical School (HMS), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Given his humble beginnings in a small town in Ghana, Dr. Mensah strongly believes that every child has talent and potential and that, with the right support, they can contribute meaningfully to society. We believe that with access and opportunity, determined and ambitious individuals can achieve fulfilling careers in any path they choose to pursue.

We invite you to join us in this critical work. Become one of our partners and help us make healthcare more equitable by expanding opportunities for underrepresented students pursuing education in medicine, biotechnology, or the life sciences.

Our Vision

We strive to support underrepresented and low income students on their path to medical, life science, and biotech careers, helping them become transformative leaders and role models in their communities.
