The Pathway Initiative (TPI) is honored to announce that it has been awarded a $46,049 grant by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) through its latest round of funding under the “Out-of-School Time (OST)” initiative.

This grant is part of a broader $300,000 award pool recently announced by MLSC; funds that went to eight nonprofit organizations working to expand life-science education and training “beyond the traditional school day,” with a focus on underrepresented and low-income youth.

Why This Matters

  • The OST grants are designed to “strengthen classroom learning, build technical and professional skills, and expose students to cutting-edge life sciences tools and technologies.”
  • By including TPI among the selected awardees, MLSC acknowledged the value and potential of TPI’s hands-on, mentorship-oriented approach, reinforcing our commitment to making high-quality STEM and life-science opportunities accessible to underserved communities.

What the Grant Will Do

Thanks to this grant, TPI will expand and deepen its life-science programming. Specifically, funds will be used to:

  • Enhance our existing Innovation Lab, bringing more students into immersive, hands-on science learning environments.
  • Provide out-of-school programming that introduces young people to real-world tools, methods, and the excitement of scientific discovery.
  • Support mentorship, technical training, and exposure to possibilities in biomedical fields, helping students envision careers as scientists, researchers, or healthcare professionals.

“As this latest round of funding shows, investing in talent from every community strengthens not just individual futures; it strengthens the future of science,” says Dr. Lawrence Mensah, Founder and CEO of The Pathway Initiative. “With support from MLSC, we’re removing barriers and opening doors for students who’ve long been overlooked, giving them a genuine chance to grow, innovate, and lead.”

The support from MLSC isn’t just a financial grant; it’s a strong endorsement of TPI’s mission to democratize access to life-science education. Grants like this ensure that under-resourced communities are not left behind, and that the next generation of innovators reflects the full diversity of talent and experience.
