What is your educational and professional background?

I am an Obstetrician-Gynecologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as the Director of the MD/MBA Program at Harvard Medical School and the Associate Director and Advisor at the Peabody Society at Harvard Medical School.

What made you want to get involved with The Pathway Initiative?

I have the desire to support students from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue careers in medicine

Why is increasing diversity and access in medicine important to you?

I believe that it’s critical to increase diversity in medicine to provide the best care for our patients. By increasing diversity in medicine we can strive towards increasing access as well, particularly if cultural concordance can optimize trust among many patients from marginalized groups

How do you see your role on the board contributing to the growth and success of The Pathway Initiative?

I mainly see myself as a resource to TPI as someone who is actively involved in medical student advising

What advice would you give to a high school or college student pursuing a career in medicine?

Medicine truly is a calling. It is such a meaningful profession where you have the privilege to care for patients during the most vulnerable and challenging moments of their lives. It is a tough road both academically and emotionally so it is important for you to have people who you can confide in to be along with you for your journey!
