This Black History Month, The Pathway Initiative (TPI) celebrates Balkys Anderson, a leader whose life and work embody perseverance, integrity, and service.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Haiti, Balkys’ journey reflects a deep commitment to education and self-determination. After returning to the U.S. and settling in Cambridge, MA, she worked tirelessly, balancing a full-time job during the day with night and weekend classes to earn both her undergraduate and advanced degrees.
Today, she serves as Director of Finance and Human Resources, Vice President at the New England Council, one of the nation’s oldest regional business associations. With over two decades of experience across higher education, nonprofit, municipal, and private sectors, Balkys has built a reputation for excellence, transparency, and strategic leadership.
In 2025, she was honored as “CFO of the Year” by the Boston Business Journal, recognizing her outstanding financial leadership and innovation. She was also featured as “Expert of the Week” by Neptune Advisor Company’s C-Level Community.
A firm believer in mentoring others, Balkys lives by the advice once given to her: “Send the elevator back down.”Through her current project, Balkys Financial Formula (BFF), she shares practical insights to help individuals and organizations achieve good financial standing and sustainable growth.
At home in Roxbury, MA, with her husband and sons, Balkys keeps her priorities grounded:
“I am a #2 in my career so that I can be #1 at home.”
Her personal motto, “Integrity, Loyalty, Commitment & Good Financial Standing”, aligns with TPI’s mission to cultivate leaders who build equitable pathways for others.
