Jacob Joseph

Professor of Medicine at Brown University

Dr. Jacob Joseph is Professor of Medicine at Brown University and Chief of Cardiology at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Providence Healthcare System. He completed his medical education at the University of Kerala, India, residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an Advanced Fellowship in Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Utah.

Dr. Joseph’s translational research program applies innovative analytics to Big Data (Health records and -omics) for novel discovery in heart failure and to enable precision medicine approaches. He holds two patents and has published over 125 articles, reviews, and book chapters, edited a book, and given numerous talks at national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Joseph also has an interest in the philosophy of science and medicine and recently published a book titled “Aristotelian Metaphysics as a Unifying Paradigm for 21st Century Science: Common Sense-ible Science.”

As Chief of Cardiology, Dr. Joseph coordinates patient-centered cardiovascular care for Veterans in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He also serves as the Chair of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (I-DEA) committee for Veterans Affairs Providence Healthcare System. In addition, Dr. Joseph serves on national committees including the National Physician Advocacy Council of the Veterans Health Administration.
