Who This Program Is For
The Middle School STEM Academy is open to students in grades 6-8 who are interested in building a strong foundation in STEM education, with the goal of pursuing further studies in a STEM-related field in high school and beyond. Ideal applicants demonstrate persistence, leadership, and a passion for learning, with a desire to inspire and mentor others, particularly in underserved communities. While the program is focused on cultivating a love for all areas of STEM, applicants with any background or interest in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics are encouraged to apply.

What This Program Offers
- Interactive STEM Lectures: Engaging and dynamic lessons designed to spark curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of key STEM concepts.
- Hands-on Lab Activities: Practical, real-world experiments and activities that allow students to apply what they’ve learned and develop investigation and research skills.
- Engineering Challenges: Problem-solving tasks and design projects that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, helping students grasp engineering principles in a fun and accessible way.
- STEM Kits: Science and engineering kits that provide students with the materials to conduct experiments and build projects on their own, reinforcing key lessons and concepts.
- Guided Exploration of STEM Subjects: A structured introduction to various STEM fields, including science, technology, engineering, and math, aimed at helping students build foundational knowledge that will prepare them for future studies and careers.
- Mentorship and Peer Collaboration: Supportive mentoring from experienced instructors and collaborative teamwork among students to foster personal growth, leadership, and social-emotional development.
Program Requirements
- Ages 11 to 14 years old
- 6th to 8th graders interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields
- Brockton area residents attending school in the Brockton school system
- Immigrant or first-generation American
- Demonstrate significant financial need (eligible for Pell Grant or Work Study)
- Black, Hispanic, and/or Latinx
Students will be selected on a rolling basis, so we strongly encourage students to apply as soon as possible to increase their chances of being accepted.
