The Pathway Initiative Board of Directors consists of experts from various professions, all dedicated to advancing TPI’s mission of improving diversity in medical education and, in turn, improving access to care for communities of color across Massachusetts and the United States. This series helps us get to know TPI board members as professionals and people, learn about their experiences, and hear what drove them to get involved with TPI.

What is your educational and professional background?

I earned my medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine in 2023 and have a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA.

What made you want to get involved with The Pathway Initiative?

During my third year of medical school, I became deeply aware of the significant lack of mentorship and guidance I experienced. This realization sparked a desire to contribute meaningfully to mentorship efforts once I graduated. Being approached for an advisor role was both an honor and an opportunity I couldn’t pass up, as it aligned perfectly with my commitment to supporting others in their journeys.

Why is increasing diversity and access in medicine important to you?

Diversity brings invaluable perspectives to healthcare. Having physicians from diverse backgrounds enhances the quality of care, particularly in cities like Boston, where patients come from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

How do you see your role on the board contributing to the growth and success of The Pathway Initiative?

I aim to continue shaping the structure of undergraduate and high school programs to increase opportunities for students to gain admission into medical school.

What advice would you give to a high school or college student pursuing a career in medicine?

Keep pushing forward and stay committed to the journey. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. There will be challenging moments, but resilience and perseverance will lead to success.
